I have been saying this for a few months. As an option for the President to get all of his recess appointments in he can simply adjourn Congress, using the method you've outlined here. The Constitution foresees just this situation.

If Congress won't do their job, then it is time to exert some executive power!

Please tell me why, why, why Thune did this. I was angry when I learned of it, and am angry now. Since the Speaker seems to follow Trump instructions, Trump should do as Dr. Eastman outlines. He should do it today.

Thune can't be trusted. I was always against his elevation to Majority Leader - he is just a modernized McConnell. He only pretends at being MAGA because it is politically necessary. Tim Scott or Ron Johnson would be far better choices.

Because Thune is a uniparty deep stater in line with McConnell. He is totally owned, willingly.

One of my senators, Cornyn, is up for reelection in 2026. He has a primary opponent, our AG Ken Paxton, who is leading him in the polls and has him worried. Cornyn is running ads which are comical. An old lady walking down a dirt road, with apparently her rancher husband following behind in a pickup truck, both thanking Cornyn for voting with President Trump 99% of the time.

These elected officials never pay any attention to their constituents... EXCEPT when they're running for reelection. This would be a good time to send Cornyn a message, asking why the guy he elected as Senate Leader is working against Trump.

Establishment Republicans are not our friends.

Cornyn did not vote 99% of the time with Trump. Here is his real voting record and it's an F 54%1..

Thanks for the link. I posted the link on Cornyn's X account and asked him why he was running ads stating he votes with Trump 99% of the time. I'm in the Dallas area and I see his ads and Democrat ads attacking Beth Van Duyne and Lance Gooden (House). It is so early in the election season. Someone has some money to throw around.

I didn’t say Corny voted 99% with Trump.

I’m just telling everybody what Corny’s ad says. :-/

Thank you for bringing that up. It’s a good point.

I hope Paxton, wins. I don't live in Texas but I know who Paxton is . . . and I'm also painfully aware of who Senator Slim Jim in a suit and tie is.

As we know Thune was a RINO so not surprising. That said, as we know the founders had the senate under appointment by the each states house of representatives therefore having them under the "control" of we the people. When Congress changed that accounting, the corruption and party play really began. Put it back like the founders set it up originally. Johnson has been compromised somehow. He looks like a representative Bill Cassidy. That is a BIG YUK!!! I am from Louisiana and believe me I can say it. Trump needs to shut both down and get his appointments done..we the people are waiting and we are getting tired of paying our employees in congress to not do the job we want done.

I appreciate this explanation by John Eastman of the intricacies of Congress, Julie. Regrettably, I believe this farce only confirms my suspicion of Majority Leader Thune. I heard Senator John Kennedy from Louisiana say on Hannity's show the other night, when asked about both of the minority leaders, respectively, being scared of the Marxists who run the Marxist-Demo party, that each of them ought to go to Amazon and buy a pair of testicles. Perhaps Senator Thune should following Senator Kennedy's advice...

Thune and Johnson are both limp dick RINOs who don’t really care about their constituents and the voters who returned Trump to office. They are just as bad as those do nothing asshats that they replaced. Judas Johnson is such a sellout; he will be gone in the next election, Thune when next up for reelection. Good riddance.

While this nuanced approach is appreciated, it is also totally unnecessary. Thune should do his job (and either call the Senate into session to fill all appointments or RECESS!) or we should make DAMN sure he is ousted ASAP!

Adjourning Congress is a trap.

Change the job description for the positions that are not filled. Make their jobs watching middle schoolers eat lunch. Then put ‘interim’s’ in the post and when they are approved, revert back the previous job description.

I agree; this is s stupid charade to be implementing when the House and Senate are led by the same party as the President. And for Johnson and Thune to whine about the possibility that the Democrats will do the same when they are in power is a bunch of belly-aching. Those dumb Congress-critters need to either do their job or announce their intent to resign at the conclusion of this session.

Sounds great! Hope Speaker Johnson acts immediately on Eastman’s plan. Dems are so incredibly incompetent at governing. They are lawless obstructionists.

Thune and Johnson are hampering the president’s ability to get people in place in their sneaky ways because they're not really as onboard as they appear on camera-all buddy-buddy with Trump. They need to put country first and get people into place. It's not that complicated. A child of four would understand. I've called the speaker's office many times in the past and no one is ever there. Ever. Just an answering machine. So Trump does need to do what Eastman suggests.
