Dr. Fauci was initially invited but declined to appear (didn’t feel like it), so the committee issued a subpoena compelling him (under penalty of up to a year in jail for failure to show). Because Dr. Fauci was given a peremptory pardon by “Joe Biden,” he cannot legally invoke the Fifth Amendment against self-incrimination. He will have to answer the questions.

Getting a job at the NIH is easy. Any new person with his MD (which everyone gets when they graduate from medical school) can work at the NIH. Few qualified physicians want to work as a bureaucrat at a govt institution. Only those who want no patient contact would apply.

He doesn't have that option because of the pardon. He has to answer, and his pardon will not cover anything (such as perjury) after it was issued.
