Working with the Obama-appointed chief judge of D.C. federal court, Special Counsel Jack Smith squeezed Twitter for Trump's data and a hefty fine for contempt. Both claimed Trump was a flight risk.
Is it legal for Jack Smith to provide Trump’s tweets to the news media? Isn’t that creating a double standard? Trump isn’t allowed to discuss his cases. Remember, all citizens that are voters are victims too. It creates a highly biased system.
Unfortunately DOJ can get away with whatever it wants in DC courts. I have watched this for 2 1/2 years and seen the human wreckage left behind. It truly is a sick, twisted place.
I finished reading https://graphics.latimes.com/utah-sting/ before I saw Julie's new essay. The heavy-handed over-reach of government people with too much power has a familiar pattern.
Most corporations of size are incorporated in Delaware and maintain a service address there, available in a variety of public databases. So serving a search warrant by throwing it in the driveway (effectively what they did) probably won't hold up. But there is no remedy for material already disclosed. Smith has it, it's electronic and seizure after the fact makes no difference.
It's clear Smith's goal isn't winning at trial. It's just keeping Trump's name continuously in negative press coverage. More ammunition for that objective was needed.
One question I have: was the phone used during his presidency issued by the government? Likely that means some direct messages could contain classified information.
Meanwhile the TIPP polling done for the NYT that dove into deep crosstab analysis reveals why this is happening: support for Democrats lies with white college graduates and the overlapping highest earning quintile. The party is bleeding support everywhere else. What an irony for the party that billed itself for decades as the home of the working stiff.
I continue to be amazed by the response of the right on all these issues you report on. The reaction is “look at the cool meme that Catturd put up” while the left is stepping on their throats. Astounding!
Thanks Julie. This just gets worse and worse.
It is simply unbelievable. And for an all-Dem appellate panel to uphold it is even more despicable.

Thank you for your serious journalism, Julie.
Yes, exactly. The Candidate’s comments are spoken to the public, to whom belongs the franchise as the right of citizens.

They abuse their power and are gratified by the suffering they inflict knowing their victims have no recourse.
Reminds me of Uday Saddam Hussein.
