Alas, however valid the settlement (restitution), those funds ultimately come from taxpayer funds.

To really ensure this doesn't happen again, the Jack Smith et als. who operated UNDER COLOR OF LAW should have their pensions and other personal assets attached and used toward the settlement / restitution.

Note this legal definition of "color of law": https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/color_of_law

I agree, Tom! It is unfortunate that taxpayers and not the perpetrators will have to pay. But I sure didn't hear the guardians of the nation's coffers complaining over how much the government was spending every month on this fiasco!

Not sure if restitution would come in whole or in part from taxpayers, since due process rights are against the cabal of those found liable for their actions. No one above the law is a two way trip.

I think President Trump has every right to recoup every dollar he spent fighting the lawfare against him. He even stated he would not take the money personally but return it to the American people through charity or the magnificent new ball room. The legacy media never mentions he donates his entire salary to much deserving charities. Would Biden or Obama take the money for personal use you damn right they would! Remember Obama suing the banks and giving billions to lefty activist groups ? I do!

It’s so disappointing that we cannot make them pay out of their own pocket.

Money is clearly very important to them. If we know our president he will find a way to bankrupt each & every one of them.

Trump did less to cite anything related to J6 than did Ray Epps and yet the pursuit of Trump was more vigorous than of Epps. Only if the former pursuers of Trump suffer financially will this stop.

Absolutely correct. The investigations, arrests, and prosecution must accomplish more than just making the president whole; it must send a message that this is your fate if, and when, they try it again.

Because the corrupt @FBI thought Trump supporters were below the law. They sentenced every Jan. 6 defendants to an average of three years. It makes me want to vomit. I can prove it was a government operation. @NancyPelosi is guilty as fuck. Look at Instagram, up to its old tricks. Go fuck yourselves, you POS Americans. @Instagram

"How do the Charles Cookes of the world justify the fact that Joe Biden’s DOJ forced Donald Trump to spend millions of dollars in campaign funds each month, which gave Biden then Kamala Harris a huge advantage during the 2024 presidential campaign? Did that not cross any Constitutional lines?" - Julie Kelly

Excellent Point! Trump should run with this and add that in addition to pursuing the settlement, he is considering opening an investigation into Biden's DOJ for election interference, conspiracy to defraud the U.S. Government, and conspiracy against rights. Always stay on the offensive and enjoy the exploding heads of our little delusional crusaders against imaginary kings.

Sounds reasonable to me. Is it so much different than the individuals falsely imprisoned for crimes they did not commit, only through DNA proof, released so many years later. Hearing about the paltry settlements these individuals receive from their government is insulting.

One of the main issues of malicious prosecution involves the concept that the State (which in this case, is the United States) doesn't have a legal basis for the case, or that the reasons presented to the court had no basis in either fact nor in law. Based upon the statements of Charles Cooke, I would submit that he is not aware of this. I would make the same statement about the comments by some of the quoted Democrat legislators. Ironically, they should know better; most of them are lawyers.

I don't think this case will be resolved before January 21, 2029, when President Trump is no longer President Trump. Waiting until then would get away from any interpretation of the Emoluments Clause issue, even if a settlement is written before that date by his own Department of Justice.

I hope it is resolved before then, Kevin. I have yet to see a convincing Emoluments argument against any settled--surely not one by Charles Cooke!

And then the absolutely stupefying contingent of arrogant self aggrandizing, diarrhea of the mouth spewing LIARS, who apparently have no concept of just how dumb they look and sound like embarrassing tantrum obsessed screaming three year old semi normal little kids, continue on with their hissing, kicking and self mutilating actions, somehow expecting that they should be awarded for such astonishingly yet constant sick behavior. (Wow, now that's a run on sentence!)

Nasty Pelosi is the quintessential model for exactly what I just described! Her LYING FINGER POINTING replete with verbal SCREAMING treatment at a journalist that triggered that green slime attired insider rich self endowed politician to "let loose on" was such a complete reveal of why the Democratz have red "L"s tattooed on their foreheads (for LOSER)! It's a whack-a-mole orchestration of which MOUTHY DEMOCRAT will be stepping up NEXT to incite yet another target rich behavior vomit of incredibly bad understanding of how adolescent their actions are!

It's as if none of them have any prefrontal cortex development left in their brain, at all, because there are no executive control abilities occurring. They ACT as though, what they are saying and doing somehow makes any sense whatsoever! And then, beside that, there is their sense of entitlement that they should have carte blanche to continue to mouth off with no impending responsibility for such lack of "getting it" that what they have been conducting is WRONG ON ANY AND EVERY LEVEL OF ADULT BEHAVIOR!

Shades of dumb as F Joe Biden obviously is a contagion for the entire Democrat party voter AND politically braying jack ass that holds any appointed or elected position! Cognitively Sick does not even begin to define just how dumbfoundedly rude they all are!

Something is really wrong with the Democratz when a man with clinically proven brain insult is actually making logical sense decisions as John Fetterman has in the recent past!

Well done, Julie! This piece which describes in somewhat detail all of the "unprecedented" torment afflicted upon President Trump while he was between administrations, is a good snapshot of the incredible costs incurred by him to fight these baseless indictments. I really appreciate your description of the Never Trumpers at National Review (William F. Buckley must have turned in his grave to realize how his magazine was destroyed by those very Never Trumpers) because they embody those wonderful Inside-the-Beltway-Establishment-Statists-RINOS, don't they? And, as you wrote, all of this unprecedented lawfare occurred while he was a former President and private citizen, so any compensation should be viewed in that light. The entertainment just keeps on coming doesn't? We are tired of winning, are we?

Karlan, as you may know, I used to write for NRO. It was a thrill because i grew up watching my dad and grandfather read it, then became a subscriber myself in college. But I have to say--when I met those folks in person, I was struck by how unimpressive they were. I now refer to them as the deadfish handshake club. We don't need them on our side, nor are they, and they deserve all the mockery we can muster.

I must plead ignorance here, Julie, because I did not know that you wrote for Buckley's old magazine. I suppose it is simply the fact that they, the current inhabitants of NRO, are still stuck in the mindset that used to rule the Country Club Republicans in which they would never get their hands dirty by fighting the opposition party. I'm reminded of the Gerald Ford wing of the Republican party who were content with losing but all the while adhering to said principles. I guess, in their little bitty minds, it's unseemly for someone like President Trump to get down-and-dirty and win for the supporters who love him and his accomplishments. Agreed?

I really believe the whole compact between the DNC and the officials conspiring in government agencies as administration appointees should be prosecuted for sedition, with conspiracies for all manner of crimes perpetrated on Trump, his advisors, and the especially targeted MAGA crowd who in any other jurisdiction than DC might have had a chance to beat such bloated insinuations against demonstrators who would never been touched by a judiciary not weaponized.

A class action suit should literally be brought against the government, but also against every one of the apparatchiks pushing this hateful campaign.

There were far too many irregularities and frauds involved.

Todd Blanche should be more loyal to the concerns of Trump and the MAGA agenda. Especially in the shadow of the ongoing coup that has only gone slightly more underground since the resounding defeat of the most worthless ticket in the history of politics, especially placed by ideologues who hate everything except their own obsession for power.

Trump can do much better, surely.

I hear your complaints--others have expressed the same. I think Blanche and others are finally getting their footing after a rough start, mostly due to internal resistance at DOJ, but also a series of unforced errors.
